Boy - huge question, you could probably put together an ebook with the variety of answers for this question alone. One reason is that we don't take the time to ensure we are offering a product of value to people, once we do our due diligence locating a product of value, lots of times we just go willy nilly putting out some advertisements. Time should be taken to build a proper foundation when putting together a campaign to market the product. We have to take the time to introduce ourselves (branding) in conjunction with product promotion and then incorporate that into building a trusting relationship. I could go on, but hopefully this "reader's digest" version of an answer offers some insight for you.
