In my experience, it's by picking a domain name that is your less competitive keyword phrase, then get a few high ranking backlinks for the same phrase in the anchor text. This can get a #1 on Google in a day and I have done it.

I would just add to the previous answers, Do not pay anyone that claims to get you number 1 on Google. No one can guarantee to get you any position in the top 1,000,000. It is Google that decides if, and where they will list you. 9 times out of ten you can get yourself on Google's first page IF you take care and write good copy content and make sure you use relevant keywords in it.

This is a good question, not that easy as Bill states stay away from paying for this service, not happening, but as Peter says fresh but original content works well. The key factor also to taking into consideration which many do not do is the "Bounce Ratio" this is vital factor on your rankings. This will indicate to the spiders that crawl your site that visitors have an interest in your site, the longer they stay on your site the better ranking you will have. The more people comment on your site will also increase your rankings....Here is a proven example l started the APSense Blog sometime last year in around October, it is now ranked 715,455 l started off somewhere in 12 million spot and have slow worked the system and by now you can understand how difficult it is to get to the top 100 spots...........look at APSense currently 3,928 how long have they been around 5 good solid years............Not easy.....just a little work each and every day will increase your odds of getting close to the top...good luck

The best way I think and that has worked for me is doing research on keywords finding one that has at least 3,000 searches a month and less than 15,000 competitors when you do a Google search using that keyword in quotes. Once I have fund a a great keyword that fits in this I get a domain using that keyword, I upload wordpress and build a blog using my keyword and LSI keywords (The other keywords that pop up when you type in your main keyword in the Google Keyword Tool) Wordpress is the best and Google loves it! I was on the first page of Google with my new site with my main keyword that gets 4,400 searches a month and I just built it 05/29/11 today is 05/31/11.

First of all, make a make search for the keyword you want to optimize. Check the top 3 or 5 sites' on-site program structure (by viewing page source). If you think you can better optimize your own website then go for it. This is the simplest approach. Of course, you must have original and value-added content. Before the spiders visit your site next to index, update with some new content and also see that they cache your content first instead of (left) sidebar stuff. A little re-design of HTML is all that is necessary. In case, you can't do much about the on-site optimization, you will have to build up trustworthy back links over a period of time. Also use the power of RSS feeds of your related regularly updated blog linking to your website and pinging whenever you update. It's a matter of hard work!

You can get ranked in many search engines, and submit them when you have made a few posts, things keep changing though between landing page and blogs home page, its difficult to get up. Code cleaning is something that caught my eye this week. You can check the code of your site by adding it to an RSS feed, because feeds have feed validators, they give you a score and even highlight in illuminous yellow or bright red when its really bad where the errors occur, you see getting indexed is all down to spiders, crawling spiders of internet, you can allow them or ping them or squash them completely, but by understanding what they see in addition to what you provide considering the internet is a large source of info, you can up your chances of staying up there longer, sound cool?

I would create a blog, and throughout your content add all your keywords that are relevant to the blog, and whichever keyword you are using or keywords, that are relevant to your business and or product. So what you would do is hyperlink your affiliate link and or links to your keywords, and then I would go to Usfreeads and create two ads and in those ads you would add your keywords again throughout your ad, and then hyperlink your blog link, and your afffiliate links to these keywords. I can promise you, within a couple days, you will see yourself on the first page of google. The way to keep yourself there would be too place one to two ads each day, in Usfreeads or any classifieds and once again, hyperlink your blog, and your affiliate links to your keywords. :) Good Luck! :)

Make sure that your title tag is descriptive, unique, clear, concise and contains keywords that people use when they are searching for your site. Do not use "Home Page". This is neither descriptive nor unique. Also, use different titles for different pages.

1) Original content that is well optimised for the best scoring long tail keywords for your niche; 2) Try to make "local pages" if at all possible, by adding the city or state you want to reach to your pages. This will make it a lot easier to get to page 1 as your competition will be a lot less.
