My Windows XP computer freezes, and then I hear a low, intermittant whine coming fron inside the case. If I reboot, it'll work for a little while then freeze. I also noticed certain programs are losing entry point files. Any ideas what's wrong?

is it hot ? try placing a fan on it? virus check?

Could be that the fan is not working, but it could also be your hard drive beginning to fail. Back up your data, if you haven't already!

by the time you read answers here your pc will probably have blown up. if not get it to the shop asap

Sounds like mine did once and I had a trojan Malware which cost me two hundred to get rid of I suggest you get a good anti virus. I use avg and have had no problems since. Good luck

computer freezes for different reasons . it could be one of these problems RAM Problem CPU coolant problem IC's of the motherboard failure if your harddisk drive have a bad sector ,it can also cause your computer to freeze while the sound that you hear inside your computer is the fan ,either of the CPU, power supply or the additional fan

Not exactly a techie but first thought is that your board may need an update. Keep OS updated as well as antivirus. If all else fails maybe try a format and reload.

The first thing I would check is the fan, it maybe clogged up with dust or probably stopped working. If you are able to open the system and check the fan then do this first.
