I think sometimes "Free" means a bad start. Lazy person signs up for free program because it is easy and nothing happens because they haven't done anything so they keep looking for the no cost, no effort get rich program. I did door to door sales years ago and didn't like giving out free gifts because it made it easy to talk to people but not easier to close them. I'm not sure how you can qualify people that way in your programs but if you can require some nominal fee or effort you might be able to dump some of the dead wood

Sometimes you go on a site, see a program that sounds interesting, so you sign up and figure you will go back. Most times you forget, you would be surprised how often that happens or when you go back and spend the time to read, it is not something you really want to do. Because the program is free, does not mean that it will be a good fit for everyone who signs up.

The tasks you set for the members to get paid should be achievable. Examble, some of these money programms like the PTC pay 0,01 per click and for one to be paid should have reached $50. This is complete madness.

I have the same problem. It seems they are just joining and expecting cash to fall from the sky! They have not yet learned that there is work involved. You really can't get something for nothing. The trick is to get their attention and get them motivated. Easy to say..not so easy to do!

If you want people to work at a program there must be an investment made. If they aren't investing anything they are not going to work to recoup that investment. You say free to join and you have immediately made your program worthless since there is no investment. as affiliatemoney says, these programs appeal to the lazy. There's a reason legitimate Network marking companies and money careers nowadays require an investment. It weeds out the lazy and gives value to what people do. It also prompts them to recoup their investment

I believe people join these "free" programs and believe that there is no work involved when in fact they will not make anything with out some serious hard work and dedication. Then they get frustrated because they do not make any money but it is their fault for not putting any effort into it.. Then there are some programs that are deceiving and lead you to believe that it takes little time or no effort to make money which is not true. You need to take the approach that every program you will need to put a little work and time into to achieve your goals!

I agree, free to some people means it would be easy money. Plus I also believe that they just have not made the 'decision', making th decision to do something is the 1st step to success!

Personally I don't promote free earning programs. I know that all I will get are the worthless time wasters that think the world owes them a living and they don't have to do anything to get money. I do promote one program that has a 30 days free trial - but at the end of the 30 days if they have not upgraded they are gone. and they cant get back in for at least 180 days. - I do have to ask why do you spend your time with free programs. They don't pay out that much do they.

I believe there are certain degrees of truth in all the previous answers, but hey guys, how many of us here at ApSense as free members? I work my tail off here and frankly, BJ Antique’s reply struck a cord. Why am I doing this? In fact, why are you doing this? The answer is pretty obvious. The overall program of ApSense is genuine. You are given true value to work with, i.e. the Business Opportunity, Rev Pages (both on RSS by the way), the Blog and never mind the sister sites. Will I upgrade? I usually work a program for awhile to figure out all the ins and outs and then if results occur I will upgrade. I do not do monthly upgrades however. That is the issue here. Now, for example, I have a program that generated 112 referrals for September. All free. It should take them 8 weeks to figure out what and how to do what they want and then the program will stop. How many of them will be around by that time? Who knows. However they are also offered genuine value there. I believe besides forgetting that they have signed up for a program (I have blond moments too), it does not take people too long to figure out when programs are empty. There are lots of promises, but really nothing new, exciting or wonderful. We have all seen these. So when you get upset with folks for not furthering your dream why not try to analyze why. Maybe you should not be there either.

Thank you all for the great answers. I am earning between $300 - $400 a month with a free program, and I have signed up hundreds of people, but less than 25 are doing anything with it. The concept is really simple promote your links for the services, apply for free trial services or quotes to claim your points and earn your check, but as you say, they think that because it is free that money will fall from the sky. Free programs as well as paid programs all require you to work to earn, just like a 9-5 job, if you don't show up and work you don't get paid. But, I guess that some, just don't get that concept yet and tend to sign up to be doing something. With so many programs on the internet these days, I work some of them and have earned money, and I have worked some that are as tomastauzene says are a waste of time, but I think a lot of people don't have the motivation that it takes to do what is needed to earn online. They say that they want to make money, but still don't do anything, but go from program to program and still haven't earned a dime and have wasted a lot of time. I see a lot of members think people are lazy because they don't work certain programs. I can't say this is not so, however I have to wonder if the program being offered has any value for the individuals joining? Everything is not good for everybody. Then I have to ask are the new members being educated by you as to what it will take for them to be successful. You state that you have made several hundred dollars in the program, but have you touched base with your new members? As most everyone here has said most of the "Free" programs are time consuming, and require more than some are willing to give. Therfore before you label your downline as lazy, take the time to find out why they are not working the program. Hi Helen, You definately have valid questions in your response and I would like to answer them. When my people join, I personally send them 2 welcome emails as soon as I receive my email, letting me know that I have a signup. I then wait 1 week for them to absorb all the information about the program on the site and in the emails I sent, and check back with them and give them detailed shortcuts on how to get paid. Most of the time, I don't hear back and sometimes I do. Once they make an effort to connect with me personally, I will give them my phone number so they can call me or non USA members, we chat on gmail, so that I can continue to mentor them and help explain anything they don't understand as well as answer any questions. I had an excellent mentor, and I try to follow in his steps. Even he has over 1,000 in his downline and less than 25 are active. And although a lot of them are not doing anything, every month I continue to reach out and let my team know I am here, and to share any new information, advertising suggestions and anything else to help them to help themselves and to motivate them. I want them to have success with the program, just like I am having. But, until they tell me to delete them from my mailing list, I will continue to reach out to them. I know we get busy and forget we have joined programs, but I don't know what else to do to motivate my team. I appreciate all the answers, they have given me a different outlook on why they just join and don't follow up. Thanks again everyone! Great answers from some very intelligent business minds... Well Heathem, you've heard the expression, 'pay peanuts, get monkeys' LOL I know also that some people get totally confused online. A few I have tried to help thru skype screen share have let me get into their email etc. What a total mess some of them are! One person the other day had over 2,000 emails in her inbox! I mean, when you join something new, there are certain steps you have to take. Favourite the website for a start! And save all relevant emails so they can be easily found again. I have even helped people who really have problems setting stuff up by setting up their gmail account and saving and labelling everything for them And when one asked me after a few weeks to go in and check cos she'd lost all the details, she had given that same email address to some other list builder LOL What a bloody mess! So I now work on the premise that if 10% of the peeps I recruit get to work, I'm in front!

I think the old saying "you get what you pay for" applies in this case. If someone has nothing invested, they have nothing to lose. Most people are looking to get something for nothing and think if it is free they won't have to do anything to be successful.
