Patty, I can say I do check profiles as I accept contact...the ones that strike me strange are pages that aren't available, don't exist, et al. I haven't seen any requests lately (since 'Reason of Contact' was introduced) that were a website promo as an intro, so I can't speak to what Dawie says regarding that.
I'll say there is no sure way to know, save by your own diligence in researching the requests that come - mind you, a profile and website check take only a few moments, right?!
