SPAM: unsolicited, usually commercial, e-mail sent to a large number of addresses
In most cases it's pretty easy to tell on site what is spam and what's not, but not always. Subject lines making big claims or even pitches are obvious. But not all messages are easily differentiated. A good example is the phrase The Information You Requested. Many people, and spam filters, automatically assume this to be from a spammer but it may simply be a response to a request you submitted on a site somewhere. It's just not that easy to tell. I personally use gmail and I set up filters for trusted email addresses that automatically sort those out. What's left is 90%, or more, spam.
